A beautifully bound copy of Nash's edition, first published in 1793, an attractive and richly illustrated edition, with over 50 engraved portraits, most by the skilled London engraver Robert Cooper (1793-1836). Hudibras, the hugely popular satirical poem in the mock-heroic style, set during the English Civil War, was first published in 1663-78. Voltaire wrote of it: "There is an English poem, the title of which is Hudibras; it is Don Quixote; it is our Menippean satire mixed together: I never met with so much wit in one book as this" (Letters Concerning the English).
